"Touristy Lake District" Bowness-on-Windermere by Sjalen

Bowness-on-Windermere Travel Guide: 15 reviews and 29 photos

I went here on one of my famous "Eddie Brown" coach tours from York as Lake District for five pounds seemed too good to miss. Unfortunately, we stopped here for our main break instead of in nearby Ambleside which has so much more to offer. Nevertheless, I tried to pick the raisins out and walked around the nice lakeside with its boats and visited the sweater shops and of course the pubs :-))) No, this is not the most informative of my pages - I just wanted you to see what it looks like and to give you my first impression of the place.

To those of you who have been to the Black Forest, Bowness reminds me of Titisee in more ways than one...

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:lake, lively
  • Cons:touristy even by Lake District standards, few of the really impressive sights
  • In a nutshell:A stop on the way to more dramatic scenery!
