"Gunnar's Meadow" Gunnerside by Sjalen
Gunnerside Travel Guide: 9 reviews and 22 photos
Gunnar's Meadow is the meaning of the name Gunnerside and Gunnar must have been the first viking to settle here as this is a village that was founded when Norwegian vikings came her through Cumbria. Whoever this Gunnar was he had a knack for a good place to live as he founded his settlement where there was a stream (or beck as it is called here in good Scandinavian manner) full of trout, great fields for any livestock he might have had and probably quite a bit more forest than we see today.
Gunnerside, between Muker and Reeth, is one of the most scenic villages in all of the Yorkshire Dales and I would gladly say yes to any offer on a cottage you might have as the place is simply gorgeous. Not that Dales folk like you to come and buy a summer house without giving things back to the village so maybe I would just take over the exceptionally nice pub! Never mind the ten year lease on its barn. :)))
- Pros:scenery that makes you cry
- Cons:poor public transport
- In a nutshell:One of those places you keep in your heart

Well, I didn't even know Gunnerside was on VT!!! My grandparents used to run the pub many, many years ago. We loved the walk up to the old mines; fascinating.
