An underrated country!

by Sjalen - last update: Aug 16, 2003

Warsaw Old Town Square
Some people have wondered why I haven't made this page before as I seem to like Poland and it was a long time since I went now, with "Spader" who is my real life best friend (see her page too). Well, it's just because I've felt that I haven't got enough pictures of places. That's the reason I've made a Poland page and not individual pages by the way, but now I've had enough of a "Poland void" so here goes my general tips. Poland is a country I think many more people should discover. Being Swedish I'm maybe not that struck with the northern part as it has sandy Baltic beaches and agricultural plains which I can find at home, but Warsaw and the southern half is simply beautiful, and I have yet to discover both Malbork and the lakes in the east! And even if I prefer the south, I still think if you come from somewhere that isn't near the Baltic Sea, the coast is a must. Right now I live in Malmö which is the Swedish city with most Polish immigrants (my daughter has two Polish teachers in her kindergarden for instance) and so, I can keep up with matters in Poland a bit and even find Polish food if I want to. Best of all is that I have ferries from both Ystad and Copenhagen nearby though, so if I'm lucky, I will soon go back and get those pictures I lack. In that case, I will try to go to some places I haven't seen (such as Wroclaw) but also favourites like Zakopane. From my last trip, I remember Poland being much bigger than I had imagined even though I knew it looked big on the map. This of course means that there is lots of space for you to find your own corner. :-)

Pros:"scenic south, good food, lots to see"
In A Nutshell:"It might surprise you!"

Thank you for an informed opinion. Often we, as tourists get conned into visiting for a place's reputation. Underserved. An honest ip of something bad is as important as good.
