"Older than Lund" Dalby by Sjalen

Head east of Lund, and one of the first villages you'll come across is lovely Dalby. Definately the sort of place I would live in if I was a car driver and could get to Copenhagen at a decent time every morning. Coming from further north in Sweden, I love the fact that Dalby sits on the outskirts of the Romele Ridge so you get great views of the surrounding countryside here. To the west you've got one of Sweden's smallest national parks, and to the east of the village is the Romele Ridge itself, starting with wonderful Knivsåsen where I love to wander around the juniper heathland with its waterfilled quarry and views for miles down to the bird lakes below. Definately a corner of Scania which deserves more visitors.

Dalby centre

The village itself is ancient and has one of the oldest church buildings in Scandinavia. Judging by the records by medieval historian Adam of Bremen, Dalby was once more important than Lund. Hard to believe today when Lund is such a well know Swedish city full of students and international guests. Then again, not that hard to believe when you visit the old church with its very special atmosphere and well.
