"The potteries of Sweden" Höganäs by Sjalen

Höganäs Travel Guide: 6 reviews and 10 photos

It has to be said that Höganäs is not the most exiting town in Sweden, on the contrary. It does however have some real benefits as a base to explore the Kullaberg peninsula in the northern part of the municipality. For a start, it is the best place to stop if you haven't got your own transport, as buses to the different parts of the peninsula all meet here. Secondly, it has all the amenities like cash point and supermarkets that smaller places do not.

Höganäs town is itself also famous for being the pottery centre of Sweden, due to the clay found here. This is where they make the famous "Höganäskrus", huge "jars" for want of a better English word (my English husband can't describe ours in any other word, it's that unique a design). Whatever you call them, they are loved all over Sweden and used for everything from kitchen utensils to flowers to pickled herring ...
