"Sweden's St Tropez" Tylösand by Sjalen

Tylösand Travel Guide: 11 reviews and 17 photos

Tylösand is a small village on the coast just outside Halmstad. In the 1920s spa heydays, it was "discovered" and the famous Tylösand Hotel was built to cater for spa travellers. Since then, Tylösand has not looked back despite a fire and in fact World War II saw a huge boom as people had to stay in Sweden for their holidays - but at least we could take holidays up here.

This really is a wonderful place despite the crowds descending upon it every summer. Somehow there seems to be space for everyone and the hotel is doing so well it keeps expanding. There is nothing better than to sit with a cold (but expensive) beer at Bettans Bar, looking out at the Tylö Island and the sea whilst bathers walk past you up and down the stairs to the loooong beach. In fact, the beach is so long and popular, it is the only place in the Nordic countries with a lifesaving school so you even get the Baywatch atmosphere here :)))
