See the cluster of red cottages in there by the foot of Ottfjället? That's Vålådalen. Are you looking for a place where the signs tell you that the road ends? This is it. We came here as we wanted a nice daytrip with mountain scenery along the way and yet go to a place where we knew there was something to see since we weren't equipped for a longer walk and we had a four-year-old with us. We knew it wasn't the most scenic place in Jämtland but it sounded interesting enough. What we found surprised us. Not so much the look of the place (an STF fell station and a handful of red houses, not more) but the wonderful feeling of freedom. More dramatic Åreskutan was wonderful but full of people. Here, you don't meet many apart from at the fell station itself and those you meet are all coming from or going to fell cabins out in the middle of nowhere but with great sights...

Pros and Cons

Pros:the sense of space
Cons:hard to get to, more forest than high fell means mosquitos
In a nutshell:A place for outdoor people and those who want to become it
