Burano is a wonderful island in the Venice Lagoon which is famous for its lace making and its colourful houses. Easily reached by boat from the city centre, it is something so relaxing and different. OK, when you first reach the island, 40 minutes away from Venice itself, it seems you're in for a disappointment as millions of tourists seem to get off the boat along with you. But then as if by magic, people manage to scatter into their own corners of the island and even if you see them everywhere throughout your visit, it rarely feels crowded apart from in restaurants around lunch. Talking about restaurants, I am not the only one who claim that they belong to the best in otherwise overpriced Venice.
I love Burano and will definately visit again next time I am in Venice. Not having visited all the Lagoon islands, I still believe this is a great place that should be one of the top sights on your visit to Venice! |
