Greek landing post - Giardini Naxos

This is the view from the beach at Naxos - Taormina and Castelmola clinging to the Tauro mountain above the bay. This is almost enough to look at for the entire holiday, so yes Naxos is a good base, even though it is not the most exiting place on Sicily and quite touristy.

We used it as a base, as the more charming Taormina had some disadvantages for us; travelling with a child, we wanted to get to the beach without waiting for cable cars for a start. Secondly, everything is a little bit more expensive in Taormina and the bills soon add up, and finally and most importantly, we were going on all sorts of trips around Sicily and didn't need the extra 20 minutes down the mountain every time we had to catch a bus or train.

You would be correct in finding the name a bit Greek for an Italian destination. This is since Naxos was the first landing place for the Greeks when they took over Sicily.
