Taormina Travel Guide: 259 reviews and 697 photos
Taormina is unquestionably the most touristy place in Sicily but sooooo romantic you nearly catch the "Florence disease" as everything around you is just beauty, from Italian houses full of flowers, to the mountain (including Etna, often glowing in the dark) and sea views around you.
The town clings to the Tauro mountain (from which it has taken its name) and there is serpentine after serpentine right above the Mediterranean to get up here, but you will be rewarded, whatever the weater. This is perfect for the honeymoon, as the many kissing couples in the Piazza IX Aprile can testify. We even saw a newly wed couple being photographed there so don't go if you've just divorced as then the cliffs will seem tempting...
The only reason it is not on my top ten European cities list, is because of the tourists making it a very non-Sicilian town. Taormina could just as well have been Positano...
