"Burg and wine" a Altenahr Travel Page by Sjalen

Altenahr is one of a string of villages in the river Ahr valley just south-west of Bonn, and a great little base for wine tasting and for hiking in the lovely volcanic hills of the Eifel ridge's southern fringe. We went here for just a quick visit during Rhineroll's wineroll, a great VT meeting, to taste some wine by the riverside (see travelogue).

Altenahr was the first village on our wineroll tour so the travelogue shows this whilst the page in general has images of the town itself which I hope to see more of as it was very pretty - see the church in this picture for instace.

The village was created to serve the burg you can see on the top of this hill, and originally had a wall around it with three gate towers. Today it is less dramatic, and all you have to do to enjoy it here is to visit a vintner or two :)
