Altenahr is one of a string of villages in the river Ahr valley just south-west of Bonn, and a great little base for wine tasting and for hiking in the lovely volcanic hills of the Eifel ridge's southern fringe. We went here for just a quick visit during Rhineroll's wineroll, a great VT meeting, to taste some wine by the riverside (see travelogue). |
| | Altenahr was the first village on our wineroll tour so the travelogue shows this whilst the page in general has images of the town itself which I hope to see more of as it was very pretty - see the church in this picture for instace. |
The village was created to serve the burg you can see on the top of this hill, and originally had a wall around it with three gate towers. Today it is less dramatic, and all you have to do to enjoy it here is to visit a vintner or two :) | | |
