Em Höttche: Gorgeous Rhine fare

We were taken here by Basti (dewisri) after she had shown us a bit about Bonn after the Wineroll meeting. We wanted a typical Rhine style restaurant to try some local food, and this couldn't have been more perfect. There has been a "gasthaus" here since 1389 and being in the most central part of Bonn, lots of interesting things have happened here as the menu will tell you whilst also bragging that Beethoven once danced here...The place burnt down after a bomb raid during WWII but was rebuilt in its original style. Now the usually cheerful waiters serve you from a long list of Rhine specialities for all tastes. A bit more expensive than the average German restaurant, it is worth it for the ambiance, even if I find it a bit silly to charge extra for a bit of bread to go with soup. Favorite Dish: The Sauerbraten was fantastic...mmmm....

Bierhaus Machold: Brewpub

This is the place where we finished off the Saturday part of Wineroll after an intense day of wine tasting in the Ahr valley. Thus, it was late and we were tired, but still managed to have fun. Just not finish all the food on the enormous plates you got here! The food is a "light version German" with yummy salads and schnitzels but the main reason to come here is for the beer which I think they brew in the hall next to the restaurant. They also serve a Sunday brunch which we never tried.
