PICKING UP WOMEN

Favorite thing: NO. This is not a dating tip. For some reason, after a lot of beer, I thought it would be funny to pick up some ladies. I mean physically pick them up. I think they drank a lot of beer too as they thought this was as funny as I did. Oh well. You have to have fun don't you?

MEETING OTHER PEOPLE !

Fondest memory: Believe it or not – I met people who were not VT Members. In fast in addition to the wonderful new VT friends I made, I also had the privileged of meeting some other fantastic men and women on my short adventure. I think the combination of good weather, scenic beauty and magic of Greece gets people to relax and make it easy to be friendly. Some of the people I met:

A fun couple from Liverpool. Also known as ‘Scousers’ they had the typical Liverpool sense of humour and adventure. We danced and drank and sang. A great, if not inebriated time.

The lovely lady bartenders who not only survived the full drunken onslaught of the VT gang – they actually enjoyed it! Great service with big smiles! Thank you ladies!

The waiter at The Friendly Greek Taverna. This guy reopened the restaurant for me at MIDNIGHT and still brought us free olives. He stayed open until THEY RAN OUT OF BEER! He seemed to dance around and opened beers quick as lightening. He told me I was the best and Number 1. He even gave me a beer on the house!

The most beautiful woman from Northern Ireland, her mum and her attractive friend. I walked up the Volcano with them and they were funny, friendly, charming and absolutely down to earth. Nice one ladies!

Daria from London. She was leaving in 3 hours in the middle of the night. Still she let me pick her up and throw her across the bar. Just joking! She danced with us and thought VT people were great. She is right, but she should also see us sober to before she makes her final judgement!

DRINKING AT THE FRIENDLY GREEK TAVERNA

Favorite thing: I ended up drinking in the Friendly Greek Taverna (Also known as Koutouli) for 3 nights in a row with phenomenal members of VT! We had a honeymoon couple, single travellers, small groups and absolute drunkards like myself. What a great time! Our hosts even opened for us after they had closed when I asked them nicely. They also gave us free olives and other food to go with our well priced big beers. We sat outside and laughed and sang and talked. I even saved a cat from certain death and we fed the offending dogs anyway. VT! What a website! Wow!

Thank you to all the VT Members who came and drank with me! I really enjoyed your company and we had a great time.

GALATEA THANK YOU! JANET THANK YOU!

Fondest memory: Janet and Galatea, Thank You both for inviting me to Santorini and the VT Euro Meeting! I remember how excited I was when I got that invitation and booked my flights. Before the meeting you both did so much to organise boats (lots of boats), restaurants, tours, busses and timetables. Wow! This was on a huge scale and I don’t know how you did it!

I really enjoyed the 3 ½ walk organised by Galatea, especially when she had our group gatecrash a family wedding (pictured!). I also enjoyed the volcano walk and swim in the hot springs right up to the moment I lost my glasses in the ocean.

Then there was the last night and the big dinner. I finally got to see broken plates even though Galatea told me they don’t do that anymore (I have a picture of that too). Janet and I had a chat about our days in Michigan and our favourite grocery store. Ok, so we had a lot to drink.

Then the Big Party!

What a party! Dancing in the bar, dancing in the streets, and being thrown out by Giampiero repeatedly. We even attempted to do Greek Dancing, but we probably should have done it earlier in the evening. I remember walking back to my hotel with a huge smile on my face even though I was sad to leave and say goodbye to the last person. I promptly went skinny dipping in my hotel pool because my clothes would not dry before my flight. But that’s a different story.

Ladies- THANK YOU for the times people didn’t show up, boat captains shouted at you and when the money did not cover the drinks. I know you both had to cover costs by others when they did not show up.

We were quite a handful and it required endless patience with us and Santorini’s ideas of organisation. I know I was more than a handful just by myself! Thank you for dancing with me, I really enjoyed it.

I will always remember my VT Meeting because of you.

GETTING SWEATY IN THE BAR - FIRA NIGHTLIFE

Favorite thing: My last night out in Santorini was absolutely a blast, but I ended up a sweaty mess. Santorini is hot and humid and most bars are small. Combine that with dancing and you get sweat big time! Still, I have to say that if you are in a group the nightlife in Fira is fantastic. Just expect to loose some body mass in the process. Dancing on the bar is allowed as dancing in the bar!
