    Getting TO/AROUND:
Just a short walk over the bridge from the old town in the capital, it offers international trains services for all over Europe. It also has clean (pay) toilets, ATM’s, several good food and/or drink establishments, a Tabac and even a small tourist office with a suit of armour in the window. The small interior is tastefully decorated with murals on the ceilings and art deco type statues. Its incredibly clean. You can buy a Benelux Tourrail pass here for trains across Luxembourg, Belgium and Holland. If you are arriving here, you can easily roll your luggage into the city centre hotels.

    Getting TO/AROUND:
Aerogare Findel is the nice, shiny, and modern international airport in the capital city. It is 6 kilometres from the old town. There is not much to do in the airport. On the airside are a single bar/café, a grossly overpriced souvenir shop that also sells papers and a duty-free shop that almost no passenger can actually use because there is no duty free left in Europe. Try not to find yourself airside for a long time. You will get very bored.

The main airlines flying here are:

    Luxair
    British Airways
    Lufthansa
    Swiss
    SAS
    VLM Airlines
    Austrian
    TAP
    KLM

    Transportation: BUS TO/FROM THE AIRPORT

    Getting TO/AROUND:
The cheapest and easy way to get to and from the capital and Findel International Airport is bus no. 16. Labelled ‘AUTOBUS CENTRE-GARE, HESPERANGE 16’ it costs less than 2 Euros and takes only 15 minutes to get to the centre. The bright clean and modern busses display the stops inside so you know when you are at your stop. Coming from the airport you want to get off at the ‘ROYAL’ stop which only around the corner from the Place Hamilius, the main bus terminus. Its also the start of the pedestrian area of the old town. Busses every 20 minutes except on Sundays when they run every 30 minutes. Why pay for a taxi when its this quick and cheap?

    Transportation: (SOMETIMES) FREE BICYCLES

    Category: Bicycle
    Getting TO/AROUND:
In 23 cities and towns in Luxembourg you can use the Velo bicycles for long or short periods of time. I used these in the capital and it was very easy. The following information describes the scheme there, across the country it varies, so please consult the website. Across the capital there are a series of automated rental bicycle stands that are free for shorter periods of time. Simply go up to the computerised kiosk at the larger stand and insert a credit card. Instructions are not that straight forward, but essentially you pay 1 Euro to get a unique code you can use over and over again. When you unlike a bike using your code you can cycle all over the city. When you are done you can go to any of the stands and simply reinsert the cycle into a stand. For short periods (30 minutes) its free and for longer time periods its economical. If you leave the bike unlocked somewhere and its gets stolen – you will be hit with a huge fee on your credit card. It’s a great system. Unfortunately some of the smaller stand areas are sometimes full when you want to leave the bike.

I hope to be in Paris during christmas time and plan to go to Brussells and Bruge. Luxembourg also looks a like nice daily getaway. Greetings from Ankara...
