"THE BEST RESORT IN GRAN CANARIA" Playa del Ingles by DAO

IT’S A GERMAN RESORT. Before English speakers decide to go to the more popular Puerto Rico Resort – DON’T! This is the best of the following on the island:

• Natural Beach
• Laid out resort – it’s flat!
• Restaurants
• Prices
• Activities close to hand
• Joined with Maspolomas – the biggest sand dunes in Spain!
• Joined with the Nudist Beaches (note that is plural)

Although Playa del Ingles means ‘Englishman’s Beach’, most English speakers stay down the coast in Puerto Rico. This is a stunningly steep mountain with calf busting climbs up to you hotel and down to the FAKE beach. Horrible unless you just want to stay in a drunken stupor in English Bars. I can respect that, but it’s the ugliest part of the island.

Playa del Ingles is a walk over the big dunes or around the awesome beach to the Maspolomas Resort – definitely second fiddle to Playa del Ingles.

So how was my stay here?

Excellent. I found great restaurants and bars, especially if you like German beer. Plenty of folks spoke Spanish and English. Lots of activities, pools, shopping and even the prices were a bit cheaper in the small stores. It’s very walkable. The beach is massive and clean. I ended up here on an ‘Allocation on Arrival’ where they tell you on the bus leaving the airport where you will stay. I hired a car and drove all over the island, so I know how much better this resort is.

And if you really need it – there is a MacDonald’s close to the beach entrance.
