That was on December 31, 2008.
Not quite 3 months later Heinz and I started our vacation and every day was as we had hoped it to be! When we returned we had two suitcases full of wonderful memories - and two new friends in Cape Town!
Thank you so much, Solvej and John, for making this vacation such a memorable one!

Interesting videos of the Gumboot Dancing! The coast around Hermanus looks very beautiful, what a great place for lunch.
Excellent cultural tips on South Africa, Christine!
I particularly liked your tip on the correct etiquette when greeting someone. Indeed, if you forget to do so, you will sometimes find that the expectation of the 'How are you'/'I am fine' exchange is so ingrained that people will automatically jump to saying 'I am fine' even if you haven't asked them!
Regards
cathy
Ja...da bekommt man wieder Fernweh :). Das Foto von Hermanus ist super!!!
Hallo Christine, hab mich lange nicht gemeldet. Deine Süd Afrika Seite ist sehr interessant. Gefällt mir gut. Thank you for charing your impressions. Gabi
I think that like me, you have become a South African convert. You wrote about your days in such an interesting way.
Glad you enjoyed SA's Mother City and Environs - it's an ever inviting city ;-)))
interesting and very helpful to read about these ATM-scams !
Sounds like a fantastic trip -- complete with an open air concert in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. I like your language tip with the photo of the stop sign at the railroad crossing. That's what we need in Germany -- would save a lot of lives.
what fantastic travelogues - you took us there with you!! i so enjoyed them and your photos are wonderful
Tini, fantastic start here. Especially the warning and danger tip is interesting. Keep up teh good work and speed up with tip writing. :-)
