Barentsburg - the last Soviet frontier

by tini58de - last update: May 28, 2006

We went to Barentsburg on a daytrip from Longyearbyen

Barentsburg is a Russian settlement on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard - and although I have seen a few Russian/Soviet places, boy, THAT place was something else.... But do read about it in my tips, I hope I can convey a little of this special atmosphere!

Some fellow travellers had warned us not to go there, because they felt it was too frustrating and just not worth visiting, but we were more than happy that we did see this interesting part of Svalbard as well!

Fantastic page about this lovely remote place. Hmm, perhaps I should better visit Barentsburg than any other place in Russia ... How many inhabitants does Barentsburg really have? :-)

It's not the 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 drinks that do the damage, but the ones after that definitely have an effect & that could well explain the photo after all. lol!
