Industrial city with quite a bit of history!
a castle, the water tower, great shopping opportunities and quite a few nice museums.
It was here that Carl Benz drove in his first automobile and Mozart lived in this city for a while - not bad, right?
Mannheim is not too far away from Karlsruhe, but I usually only encounter it as the place where I have to change trains.... But one day in 2002, hubby and I decided to go visit - and thinking about it, we should do that again one day, since there are also some really nice VT members living in Mannheim!!!
Pros and Cons
- Pros:shopping, museums and fun
- Cons:industrial town
- In a nutshell:not a number one destination

Thanks for showing me a little bit of Mannheim ! I'll go next summer there , again , to my cousin.
The old part of Mannheim sounds interesting with the unusual street names!
Germans, too ,can get lost in the "Quadrate", when they're new here - it happened to me when I had just come to Mannheim. Come back next year, for the birthday party (400 years), when hopefully!!! all the construction work is done.
"not bad, right" RIGHT ! not bad at all ; ) love the trivia about Carl & Mozart. Gr8 informative page. Thanks for sharing
I was in Mannheim in 2004, to see a South African troupe perform, while vacationing in Heidelberg. Never knew of VT or thought I would become a member then. I would certainly have taken my camera with me. Best regards.
Nice pages christl! Your hubby must have like the museum with all the keys....
I did not know, that Mozart lived in Mannheim for a while! Great informations!
Good update - I like the links you included!
Several tram lines in Zagreb are still served by old trams bought second-hand from Mannheim in mid-1990s. The geometry of the city sounds intriguing for me.
Nice page, nice place...
