A perfect location to celebrate a birthday.... Actually this trip was only a "second best" idea - my husband did not want to celebrate his 50th birthday at home but rather someplace else.
Since I had tried to talk him into visiting the Baltic States for quite a while, he had booked a real bargain flight to Riga - in case he did not find anything better in the meantime!!!!
Well, we read more and more about Riga and Latvia and soon we were really looking forward to going there and exploring this wonderful city! After 6 very special days we returned with a multitude of fantastic memories and would not want to miss this trip for anything!!! |

Riga has it all: there is an old part of town with churches and buildings dating back to the 16th century, but the city is also renown for the Art Nouveau architecture, which was very high on our to see list! |
We spent a lot of time to walk through the old city (which by the way is a UNESCO World Heritage Site), spent a day in Jurmala by the Baltic Sea and enjoyed the fabulous autumn weather at the open air museum! We roamed the Central Market halls, had a VT meeting with ritaz and went on a boatride on the Daugava river.
So, you see, we did have quite a busy time there - read more about it in the tips and please do consider to visit Riga - it is well worth it!
