I had been to Andalucia before, but that was 31 years ago on an Interrail tour right after my graduation from Highschool. I still remembered quite vividly that I liked it, but only a few "real" memories had survived this long time span....
Since hubby loves to go on vacation in September and especially has learnt to love spending his birthday somewhere abroad, he decided to pick up my suggestion and book flights to Andalucia!
We flew to Sevilla, stayed 4 days there and then took the highspeed train to Cordoba, where we spent another two days. From Cordoba we took the bus to Granada and enjoyed this fascinating city for another 4 days before flying back home to Germany.
.
Sevilla is also called the City of Flamenco, so it was a must for us to see a Flamenco show. Quite different than we had anticipated, but much more authentic this way! Read more about it in my tips!
And did you know that "Carmen" (from Bizet's opera) came from Sevilla? Oh yes, and you can still find many of the original sites mentioned in that opera there!
As I had mentioned before: we went to Sevilla for my husband's birthday, so I tried to find something typical to give him for his special day. But since we only arrived 1 1/2 days before, I had to make arrangements way before.
I had found out about the "Carmen Walk" - a sightseeing tour on foot that would take you to the different sites that were somehow connected with Carmen, Don José and 'their' Sevilla. I thought this would be the most special present for a birthday in Sevilla, but then I found out that the tourguide (a Belgian actrice /stage director) had long returned to Belgium and did not do the tour any longer. We did send some emails back and forth and she sent me her itinerary, so for Heinz' birthday it was me who was the tourguide! And it was a wonderful tour - thank you so much, Johanna (aka Carmen)!

Fantastic tips on Sevilla, Christine. Your photos of the Alcazar and Giralda are wonderful and you had great weather. Perhaps September/October or March/April are the best times to visit to avoid the heat?
I was to here way back-like in 1973, and loved to return some day. You did a very nice job of taking pictures and the comments are well done.
Wonderful pages . We were there a very long time ago. Maybe we'll get back someday.
Christine, such a joy to read your pages since Sevilla was one of my favorite places in Spain. That apartment you found was just wonderful. Excellent photos, personal insights, and helpful tips.
I think everyone gets lost at first in barrio Santa Cruz. Good pages. I was there in July and need 3 beers or not 3 beers. cheers, Karl
Very interesting and informative page! Thank you!
Hi Christine, great that you were the tour guide for the Carmen Walk on Heinz's birthday! Thanks for posting photos especially for me (bikes) and Sonja (trams). In February 1963 I spent five days in Sevilla on my bicycle tour of Spain and Portugal.
Excellent all around page!
Seville airport to city center via Kansas City? That sounds like quite a detour! And congrats for that picture of the flamenco dancer. A great shot. Makes me envious.
Dos cervezas por favour, so what else do I need to know in Spanish? Yoru page brings back memories of my 3 hour wander around the town from the one bus station where I arrived from Faro to the other one from where I left to Marbella. Fabulous page here.
