I was fortunate to go on the Transsiberian Railway twice:

in 1994 I took the train from Moscow to Khabarowsk and five years later in 1999 three friends and I went from Moscow to Bejing/China via Irkutsk and Mandzuria. We spent 6 days and nights in the train altogether, but had a wonderful stopover at the Lake Baikal to relax a little.

Both trips were very special and very different, too and I would go a third time, if there weren't so many places else to see!

Since I have received quite a few emails concerning travelling on the Transsiberian Railway, I have tried to compile some general information, that will hopefully be of some help for you all!

The picture shows one of the conductors of our 1994 trip - a very nice man!
We called him the "Photo Conductor", because he had the brilliant idea of taking a camera with him and taking pictures of the passengers.

He had his own lab in his compartment, and after a few hours he was ready to sell the black and white pictures to the tourists. Great souvenir for us and good dollars for him!

And this is my very favourite picture, that reminds me of the hours and days and almost weeks of birch tree spotting.....

Our group was a group, that was composed of a bunch of individuals, but we met and really loved eachother!!!

Next weekend we will meet again (after 11 years and some 8 GTG inbetween) to celebrate the 50th birthday of one of our friends! Such a great group!!!
