Getting TO/AROUND: "There are two important rules to remember about gondola rides in Venice:

    1) If the price bothers you, don't do it.

    2) If the price doesn't bother you, make sure you understood the gondolier correctly."
    (cited from the website below)

    So - we didn't go!!!

I did find an interesting article in the web, which might be very useful to those of you who are intested in hiring a gondola:

Getting TO/AROUND: "To visit Venice by wheel chair is difficult. Many roads are narrows and very crowed. The paving is in "pavé" style, there are no side-walks. There are hundreds of bridges. The accessible bridges are only 4 at this moment.
The railway station is accessible from the right side and inside there is an accessible WC.
To cross the Canal Grande the only way is to use the public boats. This is the only way to connect the different accessible areas which are non connected accessibly by land.
An ablebodied companion will be usefull, too........."

This is some information that I found on a very helpful website, that I would like to share with you:

Fine tips and aerial views! Maybe the pigeons in St. Mark's trapezoid were on strike when you visited.
