An outstanding nature

Big cities usually have a very negative impact on their environment: Urban developments and industrial facilities spread out further and further, leaving little space free for the nature. This is also, of course, the case of Madrid. Nevertheless, there is still an amazing number of unspoilt locations in the Region of Madrid: natural landscapes of a great diversity, from the refreshing sierras to the burning steppes, and traditional villages and towns that coexist with highways and new urban settlements.

This triangle-shaped region was born as an administrative creation within the framework of the new political regime established by the Spanish Constitution of 1978. It consists of the former province of Madrid, which has traditionally made part of Castile. However, the particularities of all the big metropolitan areas have allowed for the consolidation of a distinct idiosyncrasy that makes the region different from the surrounding Castilian soil.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Natural areas still abound
  • Cons:Natural areas are increasingly threatened
  • In a nutshell:Metropolitanism in the heart.

such a gem which you have hidden here on this page, Daniel, "...from the fresh sierras to the burning steppes." That is poetry, sir. As are your photos. On all of your pages.
