| The cobbled streets of Brussels |
| | Brussels is the place where I have been living since September 2001. It is here where I have beaten my personal record of (more or less) permanent residence in the same place since I was a teenager. Why exactly in Brussels? Maybe because I did not choose it. I was chosen by Brussels. She had been waiting for me for a long time since we first met and never gave up until she got me here. I often long to be as far away as possible. Yet, other times, I really love being here and I appreciate the many blissful moments that I have enjoyed over all these years. After all, mariages de convenance are the longest lasting and can easily turn into a love affaire. |

| | Regardless of its situation at the heart of Good Old Europe, of its rich history and truly cosmopolitan character in spite of its liveable size, this schizophrenic city often fails in leaving a good first impression. Yet, very few people give it but the chance of spending a short time around the Grand Place and other famous landmarks. However, Brussels is definitely a great place to explore; a place where, the more you dig, the more rewards you find... Far beyond the intoxicating beers, the scrumptious pralines and the voluptuous Art Nouveau and Baroque buildings. In this page, I suggest several itineraries that, hopefully, will be helpful for those wanting to skim the surface of this most complex of cities and capture a glimpse of its multiple souls. |

I wish I had read it before my trip there last summer. I must agree with you that I do find BXL a rather dirty and untidy city. Nevertheless I still enjoyed it much with the exceptional sunshine then. Thanks. | hunterV Thu Feb 22, 2007 18:33 UTC Hi, Dan! Thanks for your useful tips! |
