Alicante, or Alacant as it is called in the vernacular language, is a good choice for a holiday on the beach. Not in vain, this is the capital of the Costa Blanca, one of the top tourist destinations in Spain. The city does not boast architectural glories but the beaches are good, the weather sunny and mild all year round and food and entertainment are excellent.
Unlike most of the towns on the Costa Blanca, where tourism is the most important activity, Alicante is an lively and active city with almost 300.000 inhabitants that does not live on tourism and with a strong Spanish character.
You can have the best view of Alicante from the old Castle of Santa Bárbara, on top of the Benacantil mount. |
