I do not know anyone who has been to Barcelona and didn’t fall in love with the city. This is the place where you could imagine that your life would be perfect: sunny weather, beautiful beaches, fine architecture, beautiful and friendly people, a rich history, a strong cultural personality and the Spanish easy-going way of life.

In fact, since the great success that the organisation of the Olympic games in 1992 meant to the city, Barcelona is increasingly becoming a star among all the tourist destinations.

Spain’s second city has nearly 2 million inhabitants and is an important industrial and economic centre. But Barcelona does not like to be regarded as a “second” city. This city likes to be the centre of attention and could never accept to play a secondary role. That is the reason why Madrid and Barcelona are on a constant battle to improve themselves and become better, more beautiful, more modern than the other one. Although you could think that Madrileños and Barcelonians are irreconcilable, I’d rather say they are into a love-hate relationship and that they could not live without each other. In fact, I do not know a single Madrileño who does not like and envy Barcelona, and not only its sea!. On the other hand, it is hardly impossible that someone from Barcelona doesn’t surrender to Madrid’s many charms.

In any case, never mention to a Barcelonian that his city is the second in Spain. He would rather say it is the first in Catalonia!
