Liquid gold

by DanielF - last update: Sep 9, 2002

The green heart of Andalusia.

Far away from the coast and the most popular Andalusian cities, Jaén is a large province to be discovered.

A big part of its territory is covered by endless olive tree orchards. Not in vain, Jaén is the first producer of olive oil in Spain. This liquid gold is one of the basic ingredients of the Mediterranean gastronomy and, according to medical research, a very healthy one, since it prevents a number of cardio-vascular diseases.

Jaén is also a place for admiring the nature. The Natural Park Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas is gorgeous and full of fauna and beautiful landscapes.

A city surrounded by olive trees

The city of Jaén is famous for its elegant cathedral. This impossing building stands like a giant among the houses. It is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Spain.

The best view of Jaén is from the Castle of Santa Catalina, which has been transformed into a comfortable parador. All the hills that you can see from there are covered with olive trees.

The Renaissance cities

Baeza and Úbeda are twin cities. They both experienced their splendour during the Renaissance centuries and are full of interesting buildings from that time.

Hello Daniel. I agree with you about the benefits of olive oil! Nice pictures of Cazorla too. I have built a Jaén webpage, what do you think about?
