The very thing that most strikes me about the island of Majorca is how wonderfully it can fit within its miniscule territory so very different kinds of visitors, ranging from royals and global A-listers to factory workers from Sheffield or Castrop-Rauxel, including eco-travelers and sophisticated city-weekenders. Despite its awful press, so many people cannot be wrong, especially when one remarks that so many first-time visitors become totally addicted to the island and keep on returning as often as they can.

There is one celebrity story that really illustrates the passion with which Majorca-lovers return to their island regularly. Michael Douglas, a Hollywood celebrity, and ex wife of 18 years Diandra time-share a historic property on the West Coast called S'Estaca, formerly owned by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria -even Empress Sissi had vacationed there. During their marriage years, they extensively renovated the property to the 20th century standards. The views, gardens and the history that the mansion oozes are frankly incomparable. Apparently, when they divorced in 2000, of all the properties they owned, none of them was willing to give up S'Estaca and that is why they still time-share and keep on coming back regularly with their new families during their time allowance; so addictive Majorca can be. Even in far less glamourous residences, Majorca has had the same effect on me.
