When touring the Netherlands, many tourists find that this rainy corner of Europe matches like no other the preconceived ideas that the official tourist board has been promoting as national image in the tourist market. Windmills, dams, cheese, canals, tulips and the unmistakable gabled buildings made of brick are the most substantial part of that image and readily available throughout the Netherlands for the contentment of the tourist, who never leaves disappointed. Some Dutch people would rather focus on other more dynamic aspects of the Netherlands and somehow abhore of this stereotyped image, but how to change something that has proved to be so successful so far?

Litteraly, Dutch people have created a significant part of the country they live in. We can truly call it a man-made country, but also a country made for the man. Nothing is made here to impress or to show off; everything looks unassuming and human measured, even if what lies behind is actually not.
