Picardie Travel Guide: 635 reviews and 1,826 photos
Picardy is one of the historical French provinces, today organised as one région, although with different limits from the ones it used to have historically. It is divided into three départements, each one bearing the name of a river: the Aisne, the Oise and the Somme. It is a flat land where agriculture prevails and with a high density of historical/artistic sights. The good news is that masses are rare and if you visit off-season, you are likely to have almost all the attractions to yourself.
As a matter of fact, Picardy is conviniently situated only a few kilometres North of Paris but, surprisingly, just a few tourists make a detour to this area. Maybe, it does not have the glamour of the Provence or it does not entice to romanticism in the same way that the Loire Valley does. But attractions are plentiful and, in particular, you will find here some of the largest and most important Gothic cathedrals ever built.
