Riga may be the metropolis of the Baltics, a big and modern city eager to join the Western world as member of full right. However, the small country that surrounds this city is a land of mistery and enchantment. It is one of the few places that I have visited in Europe that gave me the feeling of being in a truly remote and unknown land, an enigmatic place that was really difficult to unveil. |
| | The ESC in Riga The reason why I visited Latvia was actually much more prosaic. Eastern Europe has never been a place high in my list of destinations, but I was offered the possibility to attend the ESC in Riga and that allowed me to discover all the three Baltic republics at a pleasant rythm. It eventually turned into a perfect trip, that combiend fun, relaxation and discovery. |
Riga Riga is the biggest city in the Baltics, but in no way can it be regarded as a first order European metropolis. Riga knows it is a beautiful city and uses all its charms to captivate the tourists. The officially promoted face of Riga, however, seemed a bit void to me. As usual, what I liked best was the hidden aspects of the Latvian capital. | | |
