As I wanted to visit Laos in Dec 2001, it was like a dream came true when I decided to change job and took some time off to have a few days in Laos.
Vientiane is a very small and direct city which is different from any large and developed country towns even. There are minimal traffic and very safe to walk without being fear to be knock over.
You can just rent a bicycle from many rental shops around the city and ride around without any problem.
It has been almost 5 years since my last visit here. The last time I was here, there wasn't much people in the city but it has transform to quite a bustling city. The is a new multi story shopping arcade next to the morning market and there more cars than before. Below is the photo taken from the same angle 5 years later.

Great shot from atop the arch. A nice interlude between jobs indeed!
This is a city I would love to see - so far unspoilt by too much tourism. I'm sure shopping in the Bazaar would be great. No one home at the Embassy?...lol
