Austin, Texas: The Greenest City in the U.S.

Nestled in between the gentle currents of the Colorado River & the rolling foothills of the Hill Country, the City of Austin is a lively community spread across the backdrop of rugged, limestone hills. Amazingly, Austin is a place where crystal clear streams & towering oak trees meet the intensity of an urban environment. There is no other place like it in the State of Texas.

Like so many other locations, Austin had been on my family’s travel agenda for quite some time. We had made numerous plans to visit the city, but always had to back out at the last minute due to some uncontrollable event or my job refusing to allocate me the time off. Oddly enough, however, as the costs for fuel, food, & other necessities of life skyrocket out of control & force many people to alter their spending habits, I finally find myself with all the time & money in the world to travel. I’m not quite sure how that came to be, but I’m not complaining.

When my wife broached the idea of traveling to Austin, I immediately went to work researching what the city had to offer in terms of entertainment, lodging, sightseeing, etc. As I continued to dig, I became excited by what I learned.

Austin is a city where the hungry are fed, the tired sleep, the able work, the naked are clothed, & the defenseless are protected. It’s an environment where liberalism flourishes, spreading goodwill to all who enter its limits. With that said, Austin is not just a city full of conflicting environments; it’s also a city in total dissimilarity with the rest of the State of Texas.

This page is a real treasure trove of interesting facts about Austin! It seems to have lots of natural wonders for the residents to enjoy and I was especially impressed by the Hamilton Pool Preserve! Thanks for the history lessons on segregation too.

Fascinating tips! I never realized that Austin was such a green- and liberal-minded place -- or that it had the largest urban bat colony in North America. Great that the Potbelly Sandwich Works even has a library with Upton Sinclair's Oil, no less.

I've never been to Texas, but I will finally be making my first visit in August. Hopefully, my time in Austin will be as good as yours.
