It’s Never Too Late To Fulfill A Dream

Concord: A Literary Traveler’s Paradise

My first trip into Concord, which occurred when I was roughly seven-years-old, sparked my passion for reading. I vividly recall how bewildered I felt as my grandfather informed me about all the famous writers that once called Concord their home. Passing by their historic homes, I wondered in complete astonishment if any of their works had been written within the confines of these maturing dwellings.

Making my way down the streets of Concord in the back of my grandfather’s Lincoln, a behemoth of a vehicle, I peered out the windows & hoped the car would breakdown directly in front of one of these extraordinary structures.

As my grandfather spoke, filling my mind with images of splendor, I imagined that I was once an occupant of the Wayside, a house for reasons unknown I found to be most incredible of all.

Returning to Concord nearly twenty-five years later, I was once again overcome by a feeling of admiration. Walking around the town for the first time, I felt as though I was fulfilling a desire of my youth which had plagued me for years. Finally, I would be able to touch the Wayside, smell the interior paint of the Old Manse, & explore every crevice of the Orchard House. Finally, I would be able to put these wishes to rest.

Interesting Concord page! The Wayside, the Historical Park and the State Reservation certainly look wonderful and interesting to visit and explore. The Old North Bridge indeed looks amazing. ~ho & pang

I am sure I would enjoy visiting Concord because I love both history & literature--early American literature being something I am, unfortunately, deficient in the knowledge of. Very nice page! Thanks for visiting my SPb page--an unbelievable city!!

I enjoyed a lot reading your pages, Michael, and I see once again how poor my knowledge of early American literature is poor! Concord looks a very interesting place to visit for history and literature. I learned again with your pages!

Another fine Massachusetts page! It really is amazing how much literature and history is concentrated in this one town -- up to and including Malcolm X's pivotal prison experience there. I used to do a lot of canoeing, too. (But not recently.)
