Golfing is fabulous in Alaska. You can golf all night at the northernmost course in North America. Here are some friends golfing late at night. The red stuff is fireweed. It is our favorite flower because it is everywhere and blooms for 2 months. When the blossoms reach the top, it is time to get ready for winter.
Our wildlife is common, but not very dangerous if you let them mind their own business. I have never carried a gun. When I'm in the woods, I just keep yelling out, and the bears have time to figure out where you are and depart before you barge in on them. That's the only way anyone ever has trouble with them. There aren't many around town anyway, and certainly not on the golf course. There are moose though. They are fun to watch, just be sure not to walk straight at them. It makes them upset, and they are liable to run away, unless they have calves. They do NOT like dogs when they have calves.
It is cold and snowy all winter here, so the residents rarely go up into the cold, snowy mountians in the summertime. Sick of it. Prefer some green and some air with actual aromas floating around to all that frozen sterile air we've been breathing for 6 months.
Ok, enough for now. You can't miss loving Alaska if you give yourself lots of time. You can't see Alaska in a week. Get off the tour and stay a while and you'll not regret it. Roger Evans |
