Here is a review of a new book by my friend Nick Honachefsky. We are currently fishing and doing fishing stories all over NJ and sometimes in more exotic locations like Costa Rica and the Florida Keys. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who likes to fish.

The New Jersey Boat Fisherman
by Nick Honachefsky

Fifty ocean hot spots off the New Jersey coast are the focus of this detailed guide for the boating angler. From Sandy Hook’s Raritan Bay to the waters of Delaware Bay off Cape May Point, New Jersey hosts some prime ocean-fishing opportunities, for striped bass, fluke, cod, sharks, tuna and many other species. Outdoor writer and lifetime angler Nick Honachefsky details the fishing opportunities at these locations, how to find them (with GPS and Loran specifics) and—most importantly—how they are fished, drawing upon his own years of experience fishing coastal New Jersey waters and his extensive conversations with charter captains who routinely meet success at these hotspots.

Nick Honachefsky fishes New Jersey waters from a boat most months of the year and writes for The Fisherman, Sport Fishing, ESPN, and other publications. He lives in Mantoloking, New Jersey.

“Packed with tips, tricks and expert advice from local pro anglers and captains, this book unlocks the secrets of New Jersey’s 50 best saltwater fishing hotspots, and it will help you catch more fish.“ Pete Barrett, Editor, The Fisherman

“A bonanza for New Jersey boaters. … This is a book you'll want to keep on the boat rather in your library.” Al Ristori, Saltwater Fishing Editor, Newark Star Ledger

The Tuna Season Is Apon Us !

I caught this 115 Bluefin Tuna Fishing off Virginia at a spot called the "Hambone." It gets its name from a lump that is shaped like a Hambone. Not far away are a couple lumps appropriately named the Hot Dog and Sausage Lumps. Its no wonder we get real hungry fishing in this area!

If you want to get out there in style, charter a sport fishing boat out of Wildwood called "Little Debbie" Captain Phil and his crew are some of the best! Here's a link to his website. Tell him sean sent you.

Like storms, check out Somers Point travelogue.

Travellng is a passion and a way of life for me. Over the years I've travelled for different reasons. Many times I've searched for the perfect wave or untracked mountain side. I'm still trying to catch "BUBBA" the elusive fish. Every fishin' hole has a Bubba. Now that I'm finally a certified scuba diver I can go back to all the ocean destinations and get the bigger picture. I might even have to check out a few new places. My journeys to Europe were mostly to see history in person and spend time with my friends that I've made over the years. No matter what my intent is on these travels, the thing I cherish the most is the people I meet along the way. Now that I'm forced to work more than I travel I feel fortunate to live in a place that my friends want to visit. The beach is in my blood and my hair most of the time. I hope you enjoy my angle on the world and my home, Ocean City.

"As the son of a son of a sailor,
I went out on the sea for adventure,
Expanding the view of the captain and crew
Like a man just released from indenture.
As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man, I have chalked up many a mile.
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks,
And I've learned much from both of their styles. "

Skateboarding is a little hard on the body! I prefer the water to the half pipe these days. I'll leave the skateboarding to the experts and young guys who can afford to miss work due to broken limbs :-)

Wahoo

Check out my video from St. Thomas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAgnigV8Zjc

While out trolling for Tuna and Marlin you spot a Heavy weed line. Mahi Mahi have the bait pinned up under the coverage. After catching a couple small dolphin the right outrigger clip pops and line starts screaming out of the reel. The captain yells for all the lines to be cleared. The angler grabs the rod and holds on. twenty five minutes later the mate yells color! Its a Wahoo! A quick precise swing of the gaff and over the transom comes the rocket of the sea. Back at the weigh-in station the weigh master anounces "Wahoo, 59lbs, 1st Place !"

$5,000 and some of the finest eating fish anywhere. I think to myself, a day on the water, one with nature, priceless!
Wahoo, Fast and Furious, Excellent Table Fare!
