Nice is usually safe, but there are some neighbourhoods that should be avoided at all costs such as Ariane and Les Moulins.

If you are alone, avoid walking through dark streets/alleys/parks*/gardens* after 10 PM. Most locals go to bed at 10 PM, therefore most streets are pretty much empty after that time. * Now parks and gardens attracts drunks and homeless people especially at night.

If you are looking for a lively place after 10 PM, go check the Vieux Nice.

Walking at Promenade des Anglais at night. Nice is more charming at night but there are too many prostitutes around this area.

AVOID le quartier de l'Ariane, it's a very dangerous area even for policemen. This area is located in the east part of Nice, not too far from la Promenade des Anglais.

Like every major touristical city, Nice also has pickpockets. They love big crowds, so be extra vigilant when walking on Avenue Jean Médecin, going to shops like H&M or taking the tram/bus.

Avoid walking in deserted streets, around the train station area (especially Rue de Belgique) or along Promenade des Anglais, the latter because of the harassment problem (especially if you decide to rest on a bench).

If someone starts following you, don't hesitate and enter in the very first shop you spot. Explain your problem and I'm sure someone will help you out.

By the end of the day, if you look up in the sky you are going to see a lot of dark small things moving...these "things" are actually migratory birds searching for a warming place after hunting, and this place is Place Garibaldi. If you don't have "any surprises" coming from the sky, avoid this area around 5 to 7 PM..

As there are many flowers, trees in the region, there may be bugs around, so if you are allergic to mosquitoes bites or bee sting, it's advisable to avoid using scented soaps, perfumes or hair sprays; also avoid dressing in clothing with bright colors or flowery prints. Last summer a bug stung me on my back, it was very painful! I learned my lesson: no more bright pink T-shirt or strong perfume.

Can you imagine lying on the pebbles??? Ouch!
No wonder most locals bring along their beach mattress pad with them.
Also watch out where you step, especially walking barefoot.
