I lived in San Diego for six months in 2002. What a wonderful city! I really loved it there. The most endearing thing about the city is its near-perfect climate. I guess that aspect of SD is especially lovely to me since I moved from Seattle. Seattle is much more beautiful, with snow-capped mountains to the east and west and Mt Rainier looming beyond the Seattle skyline, and lakes galore... but the non-stop rain during the winter makes me crazy! Really, there comes a time when it no longer makes sense to get out of bed to face another grey sodden day. So I particularly enjoyed the sunshine down there! Made me happy! Another fantastic thing about San Diego is the people. I have found the San Diegans to be a very friendly and open group, willing to smile and make eye contact, and talk to others easily. People are happy here on average, and it shows. I would highly recommend a trip here, even above LA.. the pace of life is more relaxed, people are friendlier, San Diego is 30 mins from the Mexican border, and the urban planners of SD learned from LA's mistakes, so they're blessed with freeways that are relatively free of heavy traffic, and completely free of gridlock. Admittedly tho, they don't have a Chinatown or a Venice Beach like LA does... but hey, they're only 2 hours away! |
