Land of Mountains and Legends

As far as the stretch of land is concerned, Slovenia is a small country located at one end of the Alps. But there is more than what the map shows. Majestic mountain ridges with endless skiing, hiking and climbing options, interesting old towns, a short coastline on the Adriatic, vineyards near the Hungarian border and, nevertheless, a warm and welcoming people.

People of Backpackers

Franciscan Church, Ljubljana

Just exiting the railway station in Ljubljana, I noticed that almost everyone had a backpack. Smaller, larger, red or green, whatever size or colour it might have had, that told one alot about people living there. Good mountaineers, calm and strict about their rules but sincere and human at the same time, a great company over a glass of boiled wine between Christmas and New Year's, these are the Slovenes I met on my way to and from the Triglav.

Maybe one of the things I highly appreciated while in this country was the fact that, despite its belonging to the so-called Eastern block, Slovenia has not sold its soul for an eurodime, it has preserved its individuality, its beauty and specific features one can more and more rarely find in other self-proclaimed successful countries changing cap colour in the blender Europe is nowadays about.
