Liechtenstein is not only fun because most Americans have never heard of it, it's fun because you can master a whole country in two or three days!
This little principality is probably best for those looking for scenic beauty. The mountains are wonderful, made all the more interesting by the little towns and castles that are nestled throughout. In addition, the capital city of Vaduz, while not hugely interesting, does offer two excellent musuems, some fine restaurants, and a classically picturesque castle perched overhead.
To be certain, Liechtenstein, by itself, offers no more than two or three days of interest, but it is also a good base for exploring eastern Switzerland or western Austria, as well as for skiing. (Prince Charles of Great Britain learned to ski at the resort in the town of Malbun.) That said, in a country that is just larger than the District of Columbia, (62 square miles), that's not bad. Liechtenstein deserves more than just a pass through. |
