At 108.7 acres, the State of Vatican City is the world's smallest independent country, but it wields a disproportionate influence as headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. For Catholics, such as myself, it is a must see that will give you a greater appreciation for the depth of your faith. For others, it is a timelss wonder. A collection of the best in Western civilization that can be found in one place, and a chance to say that you visited two countries in one city. (Rome being the capital of Italy.)
For anyone who cares a fig about culture, art and history, Vatican City is worth at least a two day trip in itself, beyond everything else that you can do in the rest of Rome. |
