Restaurant Name: each tribe have different one
Not many traditional restaurants can be found in Nairobi or Mombasa, at least I didn't seen much of them. Big towns offers, more or less, international cuisine. As for safari lodges around, the cuisine is mixed, both Kenyan and international and I found it very good.
Favorite Dish: I had privilege to visit the home of one my Kenyan friend and in that occasion "ugali" was cooked just for me. Ugali is ubiquitous dish in East Africa, it is stiff porridge made of boiling maize or millet (I had the one by millet) meal flour in water. Locals eat it using fingers only. My favourite local dish is grilled "tilapia", every good restaurant has it on its meny. Tilapia is fresh-water fish, mostly from Victoria Lake. It can be prepared in many ways but grilled fillet is the best. "Nyama choma" is widely offered, in the restaurants, dancing clubs, night clubs, casinos or stalls along the streets. It is grilled meat made of goat, cattle or chicken, served with "kuchumbari", (Kenyan salad). To me grilled poultry is the best. I am not used to eat much for the breakfast, banana or ananas and espresso is my usual breakfast. In Kenya, however, I used to take "mandazi" if available. Mandazi is kind of donuts but not that sweet. If late for breakfast in your hotel, you wont find any mandazi because it is the first what dissappearing from the serve-tables, "mzungus" (whites) like it the best.
