Ljubljana is the cultural, political, commercial and educational centre of Slovenia. From 1991 it is the capital of the newly sovereign Republic of Slovenia. The long history of the town starts with name Emona, back around 2000 BC, but the oldest writen record of Leibach (the German name for the city) is from 1144. The Slovene name Luwigana for the first time was mentioned in 1146. The emblem of the town of Ljubljana is the green coloured Dragon, therefore its inhabitants are called "zmajceki", little dragons. |
| | The Dragon The green coloured dragon is the emblem of the town of Ljubljana. It stands on the Dragon Bridge, across the Ljubljanica river, just a foot from Tromostovje. |
Mestni trg Mestni trg (the Town's Square) is the oldest part of Ljubljana, it is the real old core of the town. This picture was taken in the occasion of VT meeting on December 12, 2004. | | |
