"PLOCE - The Lakes of Bacine" Ploce by croisbeauty

Ploce Travel Guide: 17 reviews and 28 photos

To those who have never seen the Lakes of Bacine, only a poet, who is also an excellent painter would be able to conjure up their endless beauty, but only up to a certain point, is a phrase used since ancient times by the inhabitants of Bacine and the Bacine Lakes.
Nature has a habit of sometimes playing with her children in an unusual way. In giving birth to her lakes she created a perfection with no equal; only for them she invented new and unknown colours, breathing into them all the warmth of light. Crni?evo, Ocu?a, Sladinac, Plitko Jezero, Vrvnik and Podgora, are the names of the six lakes that occupy one hundred and thirty-eight hectares of paradise on earth.
The Bacine Lakes are really different from other lakes, and in many things. They are distanced from the sea by a mere hundred meters, and their upper water level, in relation with the upper sea level, is eighteen centimeters higher. Their bottom, however, is bellow the sea surface. In spite of that, only in the Crni?evo Lake the water in its upper part is sweet, whilst in the lower part it is seawater. The remaining five lakes are sweet-watered. The fish world in the lakes is variegated, just like the lakes themselves. There are sweet-water fish, but also sea-fish.
