Turopolje is region which is located in the close surroundings of Zagreb. Actually, it starts near Zagreb airport at Pleso.
Zavicajni Muzej Turopolja (Domiciled Museum of Turopolje) displays exhibits of the region from ancient Roman times to the present times, and it worth of visiting.
The museum is situated in the building which used to be the seat of Aristocratic Turopolje Municipality. This one-storey building square-shaped with a porch facing the park was built around the year 1765. It is also known as Turopolje grad.

The parish church of the Annunciation is dedicated to St. Lucy, patron saint of the Turopolje region and the town of Velika Gorica. t was built between 1686 and 1990, was restored in 1893 by architect Herman Bolle in classiscist style.Besides Museum of Turopolje, which is situated right opposite to the church, it is the only building in the town worth of note.

Andautonia Archaeological Park is situated in the village of Scitarjevo, about 8 km northwest of Velika Gorica and is the home of many valuable and important archaeological sites. Archaeologists are still excavating the site, but the park is open for the visitors.
Here, on a 2.500 sq m, you can see remains of the Roman city including parts of the baths, colonnades and side streets.

Andautonia was the seat of an Illyrian tribe and later on it became a Roman municipality. The town was built in the shape of an irregular hexagon. Archaeologists found the remains of Roman buildings, thermal complex, roads, wall paintings, plastering featuring herbal decorations.

During the excavations there was found tools, tableware, glassware, jewellery, money from the period between the 1st an 4th centuries. Altar dedicated to the god of the River Sava was also found, along with reliefs.

There was found also a relief featuring Nemesis what might lead to a conclusion that Gladiator games were once held, most probably in an amphitheatre made of wood.

Stone monuments were also found scattered around farmyards, burial ground which date back to prehistoric times, and the graves from the period of early Roman emperors.

Besides at Scitarjevo, the traces of ancient Roman times were found in Donja Lomnica as well. Donja Lomnica is located 5 km west of Velika Gorica and there you can see the remains of a Roman road and a grave from the 2nd century.
