    Historical buildings: Palazzo dei Podesta
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Palace was built in 1200 for the politicians of the time who would meet in there. However, the building turned out to be far too small and therefore had been enlarged in 1245. The new Palace (Palatinum Novum) was later renamed Palazzo Re Enzo.
The Palace features two courts from which a vault takes shape; in each corner of the vault were carved four earthenware statues depicting "I Patroni della citta" (Patrons of the town), by Alfonso Lombardi (1525).

    The towers: Le Due Torri
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Asinelli (98 meters) and Garisenda (48 meters) towers, are believed to be the emblems of the Bologna. Both towers were built in the 12th century as a result of the competition between two Golognece families.
The leaning one and much shorter is the Garisenda Tower, not solidly supported and for fear of the tower collapsing people decided to reduce its length from 61 meters to a little more than 48 meters. As a concequence, family Asinelli won the competition

    Historical buildings: Palazzo della Mercanzia
  • Tip Rating:
  • Palazzo della Mercanzia was built in 1382 under the design of Antonio di Vicenzo. Originally the Palace, residence of an Arts Association, was used as a Merchant's Forum to discuss disputes between purchasers and customers.
The facade features a marble balcony with a great canopy made by brothers Dalle Masegne; a combination of a group of sculptures, depicting Justice St. Peter and St. Petronius, and the beautiful coat of arms belonging to the Arts' Association, make the balcony one of the nicest throughout Bologna's monuments.
