drugi otok - Burano

another part of Burano

Another small islet

In fact, there is almost a whole archipelago where Burano is situated. I discovered another small island or islet, soon after the one where Santa Catarina is located. It has the same type of houses as Burano itself only not coloured in such a vivid colours, but still lokking nice.

lost in beauty - Burano

lost in beauty

Something very very ugly

Boat ride throughout the islands of lagoon takes approximately one hour and on its route you'll meet nice landscapes all around. Somwhere in the middle of lagoon there is an ugly work of "civilisation" which obviously helps Venetians to have more quality life. In the contrast with idylic beauty all around this plant or whatsoever looks scary to me.

wooden bridge connecting two islands - Burano

wooden bridge connecting two islands

The wooden bridge

Actually, Burano consists of two small islands connected together with this beautiful wooden bridge. The other part of Burano isn't that spectacular and colourful, but worth of visiting. If not for other, you can make beautiful panoramic pictures of the main island.

Caletta - Burano

Caletta

Caletta

Caletta is short, narrow and pretty low street, connecting inner rows of the houses and yards with the network of canals. You just cannot walk into caletta in upright position unless you're very short.
I suppose it construction is conditioned due to a very strong winds in the winter period, in particularly "bora".

The church was involved in an unrestrainable decay together with the entire diocese of Torcello until 1806 when the new Napoleonic decree established that church and cenoby became property of the State.

Chiesa di Santa Caterina

Chiesa di Santa Caterina

The church of S. Caterina built in 783 and part of the homonymous convent of Benedictine nuns, is the only survived sacred building of the island.
It was readapted a first time during the 14th century as the Romanesque and Gothic structures testify, and then a second time during the 16th century.
