Castellina in Chianti

I've discovered this small town only by chance, traveling from Firenze to Siena by local Chiantigana Road. I stopped here because of the Etruscan tombs, which are situated on the Monte Calvario hill opposite to the town. From the top of the hill I saw the small but entchanting place worth of exploring.

Via delle Volte

Castellina in Chianti has long history which dates back to the Etruscan times, the first settlement was built here around 7th B.C. The Town Hall hosts Etruscan finds, worth of seeing.

Etruscan Chamber Tomb at Montecalvario

The Etruscan necropolis of Poggino and burial mound of Montecalvario, dating back to the 7th century B.C., was discovered in 1507. It is four-roomed tomb built for Etruscan aristocratic family.
