  • Favorite Thing: This maps can be seen on a wall which is situated in between Colosseum and Foro Romano, showing the development of Rome during the centuries.
The first map shows Rome in the 8th century BC, when the town was founded, being at that time small and insignificant settlement. In that time most of the central part of penninsula was under the rule of mighty Etruscans.

  • Favorite Thing: Romans were the first who understood the importance of ground connections between the places and the people. Thanks to their very skillfull road constructors, the city of Rome was connected to all parts of a huge imperia, what helped them alot in controlling the territory and developing the commerce. Most of this roads still exist but today we know them as A1, A4 etc., being part of the highway network throughout Italy. In ancient Roman times this roads were known as Via Appia, Via Julia, etc.

    Piazza Navona: Piazza Navona

  • Favorite Thing: In ancient Roman times forum (square) was one of the most important part in the town, no matter if Rome, Aquileaia, Pompei or other towns established by the Romans. It was huge open space and all roads or city streets led directly to the forum.
Forum was the place where people came to see and to be seen, to exchange the news, ghossips, to trade or doing all other things we still do when coming to our city squares.

Fondest Memory: Piazza Navona isn't maybe the most beautiful square in the Rome but it is one of the most popular and people get here very gladly, no matter if locals or tourists. It is the square which, in some way, connects ancient Rome and Vatican, you cannot miss it when strolling around.

    Piazza's & Campo's - Others: Piazza della Repubblica

  • Favorite Thing: Piazza della Reppublica is one of those squares you might pass by, during the day, and even do not stop here. Huge traffic in this area with lots of buses might hide what is worth of seeing. It is, however, one of the most attractive sights in Rome during the night time. The whole area around the square is almost perfectly illuminated and the sleeping beauty shine in all of its attraction.

  • Favorite Thing: Same place different time and different impressions. This place is less attractive during the day, at least it is how I saw it. The night illumination of the square is just perfect.

  • Favorite Thing: Piazza Venezia is probably the most visited square of Rome. It starts where the heart of ancient Rome used to be. The monumental Il Vittoriano dominates the whole square catching visitor's attention in approaching to the square.
Il Vittoriano, as coloquially called, is the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, the King of Italy, and was built during Musollini era.

  • Favorite Thing: In my four days stay, I never visited Piazza Venezia in the morning hours, funny but truth. The white marble of the monument must be in particularly attractive under the bright sunny day light. Well, something I make it up next time.

Piazza di Spagna - Spanish Steps: Piazza di Spagna

  • Favorite Thing: Being in Rome and missing the Spanish Stairs is like eating soup without a salt. What brings all this people here, what is so magnetic in this stairs making both, locals and tourists, to gather here all day and long in the night? Once you get here makes you to stay for a while, to sit down and watch the people around, smiling with them for no reason, being in good moods and sharing drinks and food with those next to you.

    Piazza's & Campo's - Others: Piazza Argentina

  • Favorite Thing: Piazza Argentina is one of those squares where you drop even if not intended to. It is one of the key points from where and to many public transportation means leading tourists and visitors of Rome. It was not easy to get taxi in Rome during New Year holidays, but from here it was much easier than from the other places in the city.

Fondest Memory: On the other hand, Piazza Argentina is a must see because of the huge structure of remains from the Roman times, which dominates the whole square.......

Fabulous pictures. Great tips, I'll be back to read more. It really is a shame that the city is not so clean.
