It was about 4:40 in the morning when we arrived on the lake, just about time to watch the sunrising. Chott el Jerid is huge dry salt lake situated in the most western part of the country where Sahara desert starts.

Only a small traces of water can be seen here making fantastic combinations of colours over the landscape.

The colour of the lake-water is changable due to the content of the minerals, from gray and blue to red, making whole landscape almost unreal.

Nice page, I remember going here when I was younger on a 3 day trip to the Sahara. I remember how vast the laske the lake was how salty the air was. I loved it.

Beautiful pictures ! Summer is much better than spring to enjoy Chott El Djerid as it is more colorful (color including white)
